Samsung Debuts New Pico Projector for Use with Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S Devices

Samsung has just released a new, pocket-sized projector that has been specifically designed to compliment the company's vast line of Galaxy Tab tablets and Galaxy S smartphones. Known as the new EAD-R10 Mobile Beam Projector, the device is curved like a smartphone as opposed to being brick shaped like most other pocket projectors. This makes it easier to slip the device into a pocket or bag and take it with you wherever you go.

The one major downside here is the specifications, which look like something you would find in a pocket projector from a couple of years back. The brightness only comes in at 20 lumens while the resolution maxes out at 640 x 360, meaning it is barely able to qualify as a pico projector. However, by using components that are slightly outdated, the Beam is able to achieve a smaller form factor than the Galaxy S III and a price tag of only $221.

Another downside is that the Beam appears to only be a South Korean exclusive at launch. However, this device also appears to be a good alternative to some of the bigger, heftier smartphones out there that have a projector built in, which have had moderate success in the industry in business settings as average consumers don't really see the need for a projector-smartphone hybrid.

If you are looking for a highly portable, pocket-sized projector then the EAD-R10 Mobile Beam Projector from Samsung might be worth looking into, especially if you have a version of the company's Galaxy Tab or Galaxy S smartphone. Samsung's Galaxy Beam Released in the UK

Samsung has officially released its latest version of the Galaxy Beam smartphone, which comes with a built-in projector. The device is currently available in the UK only and is capable of casting up to 50 inches of high definition content onto a wall or other flat surface. The current model was first debuted back in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

According to Vice President of Samsung UK and Ireland Simon Stanford, "It's the kind of device you won't find anywhere else - a high-definition projector within a standard-sized smartphone - and is great for people who want to watch movies, show photos to friends or need to give a presentation while they're out and about."

The very first iteration of the Galaxy Beam was unveiled back in 2010. The update brought a larger screen that measured 4' as opposed to 3.7', though the device still carries a very outdated operating system in Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The smartphone also runs on a dual-core 1GHz processor and features a 5-megapixel camera along with 8GB of internal memory.

No official UK pricing was announced by Samsung for the Galaxy Beam, though carriers have been announced and include T-Mobile and Orange through Carphone Warehouse. Orange has the cheapest offer which involves a free device and a £31 monthly contract. Various independent online retailers are also offering the device for around £400.

The 3D Projectors of CES 2011

CES 2011 made a lot of waves in the world of projectors showing off a wide range of 3D HD projectors that accept content over HDMI. The thing that makes this special is that most of the 3D projectors on the market could only receive content from a PC via VGA or DVI, which reduces the image to a less than stellar 480i quality. That all seems to be changing, however, with the new styles of 3D projectors that will be hitting the market which can output in HD and even transform existing 2D content into 3D content.

Of the 3D projectors shown, a few impressive ones came from Vivitek. Vivitek's newest line of projectors have the ability to transform content that is made in 2D and produce it in HD 3D. The D512-3D, D536-3D and D538-3D projectors convert input sent via HDMI and output them in 720p 3D. All of these projectors also have a range of 2600 to 3200 lumens, and the best part is that these products are only supposed to run between $899 and $1,299 with a summer release date.

Sharp also displayed some nice 3D projectors as well. The company's new 1,600-lumen XV-Z17000 3D DLP 1080p home theater projector is said to come out in February for around $5,000. The XV-Z17000 comes with two pairs of 3D active shutter glasses and uses "IR Link" to sync your image.

Samsung announced their SP-A8000 3D home theater projector which, like the Vivitek ones, is also capable of transforming 2D images into 3D images. The SP-A8000 comes with full HD, 1,000 lumens and has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. The SP-A8000 also only has a single lens as well as a single bulb. No availability or pricing has been released on this one yet.

Other great products came from Mitsubishi as they unveiled their 1,000-lumen Diamond HD9000 3D projector. This projector is a full HD 1080p 3D home theater model that has the ability to produce 100-inch 3D images. The Diamond HD9000 uses active shutter glasses and has a 120Hz refresh rate. It is also powered by an SXRD reflective liquid-crystal optical engine and has a 120,000:1 contrast ratio. No word is out on pricing or availability on this one either.

Projector fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, especially if they are fans of 3D.

Pico Projectors for Droids

The iPhone 4 has been all the rage lately, but did you hear about the latest Android feature coming from Samsung? The Samsung Galaxy Beam is going to have a tiny pico projector built in, which will project up to 50 inches away. Pretty neat, right?

The phone, which was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress this year, will go on sale next week in Singapore (only July 17) and later in the year, it will go on sale in Asia and Europe. Unfortunately, there is not yet a release date for North America. Even so, Droid fans are hoping the phones will be here soon because they have lots of cool features.

The smartphone will features version 2.1 of Android's Operating System. It's 0.6 inches thick and weighs 5.5 ounces. It's got a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel camera, a VGA quality lens in front for video chat, an integrated FM radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS support.

But the most unique quality is the phone's built-in projector. The pico projector in the Beam is powered by Texas Instrument's DLP technology. It's not the first gadget to have a pico projector built in, it's not even the first Samsung device to incorporate a projector, but it's more-than-likely the first smartphone to have one and it probably won't be the last. Remember when cell phones with cameras were unique? Imagine what will happen when a person is able to stream a movie or television show from their phone to the wall when they have that desire?

The Samsung P410

Samsung has just released their latest projector the P410. It has many similarities to the very successful P400 that Samsung released last year, only the Samsung P410 took all of the best qualities from the P400 and added even more incredible features.

The P410 is considered "highly portable" with its dimensions measuring 2.5 x 5.8 x 5.7 (HWD) and weighing with all the power adapters and cables only 3.4 pounds. Its not quite small enough to qualify as a palmtop, but is most certainly still very portable. The P410 even comes with a soft traveling case to increase the projectors portability.

The projector features an LED light source, which means that you can turn the Samsung P410 off after a presentation, pack it up, and be on your way without having to wait for the lamp to cool down. The LED light source also has a 30,000-hour lifetime, lasting the life of the projector. This eliminates any additional costs that you normally would have to put out to replace the lamp.

There can be little difficulty in setting up the simple P410. All that you have to do is plug in the power connector and the appropriate cable or USB key, slip off the lens cover, project the image towards a wall or screen, adjust the image size, and focus the projection with the manual control found on the P410's side. On the back of the projector are featured a variety of connectors including a VGA connector for hook up to a computer, RCA phono plugs for composite video and stereo sound, and a USB port for any kind of USB memory key. The fact that you can use a USB memory key is a great feature. This means that you can take a variety of different files such as JPG, BMP, GIF, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Motion JPEG, AVI, MOV, WAV, and more, stick them on a memory key, stick it in the USB port on the projector, and immediately have a high quality audio or video presentation.

Audio and video quality are something that should definitely be taken into consideration. The P410 is surprisingly bright for its small size measuring in at 170-ASNI lumens, a 1,000:1 contrast. The projector was designed mostly for the purpose of projecting data, so the video quality is certainly not the best. If your looking to purchase a projector for any video needs, it would probably be best to steer clear of the P410. The audio quality on the other hand is much more impressive than the video. For such a small projector, it has quite a clear tone and has easy to adjust volume.

The last big factor with the Samsung P410 is that it is one of the very few projectors to receive the PCMag GreenTech Approved seal. Samsung used lead-free glass for the lens, lead-free solder throughout the body, and a mercury-free light source.

With all the impressive features, the Samsung P410 is certainly a projector to look further into. As long as you aren't needing a projector for frequent video projection, the Samsung P410 should meet all your business needs.

Samsung Showcases New Micro Projector

Samsung has taken the next step in innovative mobile technology and has created the MBP Micro Projector. This little gadget projects a 10 ansi lumen beam and comes in a box measuring 2.8x2.8x2.1 inches, about the size of a cigarette pack, and produces an image that can reach up to 50" in size.

The MPB 100 has an approximate battery life of 3 hours and can run the length of a movie before needing to be recharged. These Micro Projectors have already become available in South Korea and the model is expected to reach Europe and the United States soon with a $200-$300 price tag.
